Skills Evaluation

Surf Life Saving teaches all members and nippers to apply swim skills to ocean conditions. To ensure the safety of all juniors during water activities SLSQ have developed a Junior Skills Evaluation for each age group.

This includes a pool evaluation prior to inclusion in water activities at the beach, a ‘run-swim-run’ beach evaluation for inclusion in Sunday and training activities, and a ‘competency beach evaluation’ which allows nippers to nominate for club and inter-club carnivals. It is a pre-requisite for all Junior Activities to have an ability to swim.

If you are joining children up to our nipper program, please consult the Nipper Information regarding skills and age awards for pre-requisite swimming requirements.

All Bronze and SRC courses also have a minimum pool skills evaluation that will need to be completed. For more information on completing these courses, see Education.

Member Safety

All parents/guardians and volunteers of our club over the age of 18 years must hold a current ‘Working with Children’ Blue Card.  Existing blue cards must also be linked to our organisation. This includes professions such as teachers, nurses and police officers, who are exempt. Forms are available at club ‘sign on’ days or a copy can be requested via email and there is no cost to volunteers.

Members of our Management Committee, Junior Activities Team, Coaches and Patrol Captains are also required to complete ‘Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy’ training at the beginning of each season.

Ready to Join?

We’re very excited to have you onboard and wish all new members a very warm welcome. Joining our club as a member is easy, and can be done online.

Please be aware that all nippers (aged 5-14 years) must have at least one parent or guardian join as a member with them. This can be done by creating a family group in the parent’s name and joining all children to that group.
